The United States and the Kingdom of Morocco have signed a new ten-year Defense Cooperation Roadmap, covering the period from 2026 to 2036. The agreement was formalized during a visit by a high-level Moroccan delegation to the U.S. Department of Defense headquarters at the Pentagon on April 16, 2026.
The Moroccan delegation was led by Abdellatif Loudiyi, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of National Defense Administration, and General Mohamed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the Southern Zone. They met with U.S. Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, Dr. Mara E. Karlin.
The roadmap is designed to enhance strategic partnership and military interoperability between the two nations. It outlines a framework for collaboration across multiple domains, including joint military exercises, training programs, defense institution building, and counterterrorism efforts. The agreement builds upon a long-standing bilateral relationship and Morocco's status as a Major Non-NATO Ally of the United States.
Officials from both countries emphasized that the roadmap will serve as a guiding document for defense engagements over the next decade, aiming to promote regional security and stability in North Africa. The signing underscores the continued commitment to a shared strategic vision in a complex geopolitical environment.
