United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres announced the appointment of Mohamed El-Amine of Mauritania as his new Special Representative for Central Africa and Head of the United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA).
Mr. El-Amine succeeds Abdou Abarry of Niger, who completed his assignment. The Secretary-General expressed gratitude to Mr. Abarry for his dedicated service.
Mr. El-Amine brings over 30 years of experience in diplomacy, peacekeeping, and conflict resolution. He most recently served as the African Union's Special Representative for the Great Lakes Region. His appointment comes at a critical time for Central Africa, which faces challenges including security threats and political instability.
The United Nations Office for Central Africa (UNOCA) works to promote peace, security, and stability in the region through preventive diplomacy and support for regional organizations.
