As part of its Smart Health Care City project, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) is continuing to structure its integrated health ecosystem in Benguerir, centered around its University Hospital. After several months of development, the university has announced the completion of a new 200-bed hospital and a research center focused on precision medicine.
The initiative, launched in 2024, aims to create a comprehensive healthcare hub that combines clinical care, medical education, and biomedical research. The hospital will serve as a teaching facility for UM6P's medical school, which admitted its first cohort of students in 2025.
According to UM6P officials, the research center will collaborate with international partners, including the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM), to advance genomics and personalized treatments. The project is part of Morocco's broader strategy to strengthen its healthcare infrastructure and promote medical tourism.
The Smart Health Care City is expected to be fully operational by 2028, with additional facilities including a rehabilitation center and a digital health innovation lab. The total investment is estimated at 1.5 billion Moroccan dirhams (approximately $150 million).
