Ukraine and Bulgaria have formalized a long-term defense partnership with the signing of a 10-year agreement on security cooperation. The document was signed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Bulgarian Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev during a meeting in Sofia on March 31, 2026.
The agreement outlines a framework for Bulgaria's continued support to Ukraine, including military assistance, defense industry cooperation, and support for Ukraine's future integration into the European Union and NATO. It also covers collaboration in areas such as cybersecurity, intelligence sharing, and post-war reconstruction efforts.
This pact is part of a series of bilateral security agreements Ukraine has been securing with its allies following the 2023 G7 Joint Declaration of Support for Ukraine. Bulgaria, a NATO member, has provided various forms of support to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022, though domestic political debates have occasionally influenced the pace and scope of aid.
President Zelenskyy described the agreement as a significant step that strengthens Ukraine's security and brings it closer to Euro-Atlantic structures. The signing occurred amid ongoing heavy fighting along the eastern front in Ukraine.
