Ugandan women entrepreneurs are set to benefit from funding opportunities of up to $160,000 (about 582 million Ugandan shillings) after being selected for the fourth cohort of the Amahoro Fellowship Programme, a pan-African initiative supporting displaced and refugee women in business.
The fellowship, launched by the Amahoro Coalition, provides capital, mentorship, and market access to women who have been displaced by conflict or economic hardship. The fourth cohort includes participants from Uganda, Kenya, and Ethiopia, with a focus on sectors such as agriculture, retail, and technology.
According to the Amahoro Coalition's website, the program has supported over 200 women across Africa since its inception, with an average grant size of $10,000 per entrepreneur. The $160,000 figure represents the total funding pool for the cohort, distributed among selected participants based on business needs.
Uganda hosts more than 1.5 million refugees, many of whom are women engaged in small-scale enterprises. The Amahoro Fellowship aims to bridge the gap between humanitarian aid and economic empowerment by providing sustainable business support.
