The Electoral Commission of Uganda has cautioned newly elected Local Council 1 (LC1) chairpersons against conducting any official business before they are formally sworn in and receive their instruments of power. The warning was issued by Gastervus Kakaire, the Masindi district election officer, during a meeting with the newly elected leaders.
According to Kakaire, the LC1s must wait for the swearing-in ceremony, which is expected to take place soon, before they can legally assume their duties. He emphasized that any official actions taken before the swearing-in would be considered null and void.
The LC1 elections were held earlier this year as part of Uganda's local council elections. The Electoral Commission has scheduled swearing-in ceremonies across the country to formally install the elected officials.
Kakaire also reminded the LC1s to familiarize themselves with their roles and responsibilities, and to work closely with the district administration to ensure effective service delivery at the grassroots level.
