Uganda's Permanent Representative to the African Union and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Ambassador Rebecca Amuge Otengo, has called for sustained follow-up on financing for development and the implementation of related commitments. She made the appeal during a UN meeting, according to a statement from Uganda's mission.
Ambassador Otengo emphasized the need for concrete action to ensure that development financing pledges are fulfilled, particularly for African countries. She stressed that without adequate and predictable financing, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will remain out of reach for many nations.
The ambassador also highlighted the importance of international cooperation and renewed multilateral commitment to address the financing gap. She urged UN member states to prioritize the follow-up process and hold all stakeholders accountable.
This push comes amid ongoing global discussions on development financing, including the Financing for Development Forum and other UN processes. Uganda has been an active voice in advocating for Africa's development priorities on the international stage.
