Kampala, Uganda β The Executive Director of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), Dr Chris N. Mukiza, has expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for creating an environment that supports the production of quality statistical data. Dr Mukiza made the remarks during a recent event in Kampala, highlighting the government's role in maintaining the bureau's independence.
According to Dr Mukiza, the autonomy granted to UBOS has been crucial in ensuring that data collected and published by the bureau remains credible and unbiased. He noted that this independence is essential for informed decision-making by both the government and private sector.
The appreciation comes amid ongoing discussions about the importance of reliable statistics for national planning and development. UBOS is responsible for conducting the national census and other major surveys that guide policy in Uganda.
