Senegal's U17 national team, known as the Lionceaux, secured a 1-0 victory over Tunisia in a friendly match on May 8, 2026, at the Stade Lat-Dior in Thiès. The match was part of their preparation for the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 3 to 19, 2026.
The only goal of the match was scored by forward Mamadou Diallo in the 67th minute, following a well-worked corner kick. The win provides a morale boost for the team, which has been training intensively under head coach Serigne Saliou Dia since late April.
Senegal is drawn in Group B of the AFCON tournament, alongside Nigeria, South Africa, and Zambia. The team aims to improve on their quarterfinal finish in the 2023 edition, where they were eliminated by Morocco.
The friendly against Tunisia was the first of two planned warm-up matches. The second is scheduled against Mali on May 15, 2026, also in Thiès. The coaching staff is focusing on defensive organization and set-piece efficiency, areas highlighted after the Tunisia match.
