Two people have died in separate single-vehicle crashes in Northland, raising the national Easter holiday road toll to three. The first incident occurred in KaitΔia at the intersection of North Road and Farrimond Place around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2026. Emergency services responded to the scene.
The second fatal crash happened near Kaikohe on State Highway 12 at Puketotara on Saturday, April 5. Police confirmed the death and stated the Serious Crash Unit is investigating both incidents.
These deaths follow an earlier fatal crash in the Bay of Plenty on Thursday, which claimed one life. Police are urging all motorists to drive with extreme care and patience over the remainder of the holiday period.
