The first crash occurred on Route 29 near the intersection with Route 250, involving a sedan and a pickup truck. Two occupants of the sedan were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The second crash happened on Interstate 64 near mile marker 118, where a single vehicle struck a tree. Three occupants were ejected from the vehicle and sustained life-threatening injuries. They were airlifted to the University of Virginia Medical Center.
