Two people are dead and four others were severely injured following two separate crashes in Albemarle County on Friday, May 15, 2026, according to the Virginia State Police.
The first crash occurred on Route 29 near the intersection with Route 250, involving a sedan and a pickup truck. Two occupants of the sedan were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The second crash happened on Interstate 64 near mile marker 118, where a single vehicle struck a tree. Three occupants were ejected from the vehicle and sustained life-threatening injuries. They were airlifted to the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Authorities are investigating the causes of both crashes. No charges have been filed at this time. The identities of the deceased have not been released pending notification of next of kin.
