Tunisia has dismissed head coach Sabri Lamouchi following a series of disappointing results in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) announced the decision on June 15, 2026, citing the team's failure to secure automatic qualification for the tournament.
In a swift move, the FTF appointed French manager Hervé Renard as Lamouchi's replacement. Renard, 57, is a highly experienced coach who previously led Zambia and Ivory Coast to Africa Cup of Nations titles. He most recently managed the Saudi Arabia national team at the 2022 World Cup.
Renard's first task will be to guide Tunisia through the remaining World Cup qualifiers. The Carthage Eagles currently sit second in their group, needing to improve their position to reach the 2026 tournament co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The FTF expressed confidence in Renard's ability to turn the team's fortunes around, highlighting his track record in African football. Lamouchi, who took over in 2024, leaves after a tenure marked by inconsistent performances.
