Tunisia's date exports increased by 5.6% to reach 725.6 million Tunisian dinars (approximately $235 million) during the 2025/2026 agricultural season, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture. The growth was attributed to higher demand in traditional markets such as Morocco and the European Union.
The North African country, one of the world's top date producers, exported over 140,000 tonnes of dates during the season. The Deglet Nour variety, known for its high quality, accounted for the majority of shipments.
Agriculture Ministry officials said the sector benefited from improved irrigation techniques and government support programs aimed at boosting exports. Tunisia's date industry employs thousands of workers, primarily in the southern oasis regions.
Exports to new markets in Asia and the Americas also showed modest growth, though Europe remains the largest buyer. The ministry expects further expansion in the coming years as global demand for healthy snacks rises.
