Kaitlyn Gronemeyer, a senior at Tri County High School in DeWitt, Nebraska, has been selected to attend the 2026 session of the American Legion Cornhusker Girls State. The program is scheduled to be held in June at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Cornhusker Girls State is a prestigious week-long civic leadership program sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. It immerses high school students in a hands-on learning experience about the structure and function of Nebraska's state government.
Participants, known as "citizens," form mock cities, counties, and a state government. They run for elected offices, draft and debate legislation, and participate in other civic activities. The goal is to educate young women about the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of citizenship.
Selection for the program is competitive and is typically based on leadership qualities, academic achievement, and an interest in government and current events. Gronemeyer's selection recognizes her as one of the top student leaders in her region.
