Jurupa Valley High School senior AB Hernandez won first place in the girls high jump, long jump and triple jump at the CIF-Southern Section Masters Meet on Saturday, May 23, 2026, in Ventura County, California.
Hernandez, a transgender athlete, cleared 5 feet 6 inches in the high jump, leaped 19 feet 2.5 inches in the long jump, and recorded 40 feet 1 inch in the triple jump, according to results posted on the CIF-SS website.
The performance qualifies Hernandez for the CIF State Track and Field Championships scheduled for June 5-6 at Buchanan High School in Clovis. Hernandez is the first openly transgender athlete to win three events at the CIF-SS Masters Meet.
California Interscholastic Federation policy allows students to participate in sports consistent with their gender identity. Hernandez's wins come amid ongoing national debate about transgender athletes in school sports.
