Touchstone Exploration Inc. has reported positive results from its Carapal Ridge-3 exploration well on the Ortoire block in Trinidad and Tobago. The well was drilled to a total depth of 8,650 feet and encountered hydrocarbon-bearing sands in the targeted Forest and Cruse formations.

Based on open-hole well logs, the company has identified a potential new light oil discovery. The well intersected approximately 1,100 feet of hydrocarbon-bearing sands, with an estimated 400 feet of net pay. Touchstone is currently completing operations to prepare the well for production testing.

The Carapal Ridge-3 well is located approximately one mile north of the previously successful Cascadura-1ST1 discovery. The results are seen as a significant step in delineating the hydrocarbon potential of the Carapal Ridge area. Touchstone holds an 80 percent operating working interest in the Ortoire block, with Heritage Petroleum Company Limited holding the remaining 20 percent.

The company stated that the successful drilling results support its ongoing exploration program in the region. Further evaluation and testing will be required to determine the commercial viability and production potential of the discovery.
