Tottenham Hotspur have joined the summer transfer race for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, according to reports in Italy. The 24-year-old Italian international has been linked with Arsenal and Manchester United earlier in the window.
Tonali joined Newcastle from AC Milan in July 2023 for a reported fee of £55 million. He has made 45 appearances for the Magpies across all competitions, scoring 5 goals. However, he served a 10-month ban for betting violations from October 2023 to August 2024.
Italian outlet Calciomercato reports that Tottenham have 'forcefully' entered the race, though no official bid has been made. Newcastle are said to value Tonali at around £100 million, a figure that may be difficult for Spurs to meet given their budget constraints.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has previously stated that Tonali is not for sale, but financial fair play considerations could force the club to consider offers. The midfielder's contract at St James' Park runs until June 2028.
