The Toronto Tempo, one of the WNBA's two new expansion franchises, made their first-ever draft selection on April 13, 2026, choosing guard Kiki Rice from UCLA with the sixth overall pick. The draft was held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York.
Rice, a 5-foot-11 junior, was a two-time All-Pac-12 selection and helped lead the Bruins to the NCAA tournament in each of her three seasons. She averaged 13.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game in her final collegiate season.
The Tempo, who will begin play in the 2027 season, acquired this pick as part of their expansion draft assets. The other new team, the Golden State Valkyries, selected Stanford's Lauren Betts with the first overall pick.
