Tirunelveli Member of Parliament S. Gnanathiraviam has facilitated the disbursement of ₹33 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for 14 patients in his constituency requiring critical medical treatment. The funds were approved to assist with the high costs of surgeries and therapies.

The PMNRF, established by the Government of India, provides immediate relief to families affected by major accidents, natural calamities, and medical emergencies. Applications for aid are typically processed through the offices of Members of Parliament, who forward eligible cases to the PMO.

MP Gnanathiraviam, representing the Tirunelveli constituency in Tamil Nadu, confirmed the allocation, stating the financial assistance would help cover expenses for treatments including heart surgeries and cancer care. The beneficiaries are from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

This disbursement follows standard procedures for the PMNRF, which relies on public contributions. The fund is distinct from the PM CARES Fund, which was created specifically for COVID-19 relief efforts.
