Three Senegalese football supporters have been released from prison in Morocco after completing three-month sentences. They were among a group of 18 detained following incidents during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, which was held in Morocco.
According to reports from Senegalese and Moroccan media, the three individuals were released on the morning of Saturday, April 18, 2026. They had served their full prison terms at the local penitentiary establishment in Oujda.
A request for a royal pardon has been formally submitted to King Mohammed VI of Morocco for the remaining 15 detained supporters. The group was arrested after the final match for acts of vandalism and disturbances, which Moroccan authorities described as damaging to public property.
The case has drawn diplomatic attention, with Senegalese officials, including the country's ambassador to Morocco, involved in discussions to resolve the situation. The release of the three fans is seen as a positive step, while the outcome of the pardon request for the others is pending.
