Jil Teichmann (WTA 207) advanced to the semifinals of the WTA 250 Rabat Grand Prix on Thursday, defeating wild card Yasmine Kabbaj (WTA 334) 6-1, 5-7, 7-6(6) in a grueling 3-hour-7-minute quarterfinal match. Teichmann saved three match points during the decisive tiebreak to secure the victory.
The Swiss left-hander, who has been working her way back up the rankings after injuries, showed resilience after losing the second set. Kabbaj, a Moroccan wild card ranked 334th, pushed the match to a third-set tiebreak but could not close it out despite having three match points.
Teichmann will face either top seed or another opponent in the semifinals on Friday. The Rabat tournament is a clay-court event on the WTA 250 calendar, held at the Royal Tennis Club of Rabat.
