Team Florida brought home 73 medals from the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games, held June 21-26 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The team included 120 athletes who competed in 14 sports, according to the Special Olympics Florida website.
The medals included 27 gold, 23 silver, and 23 bronze. Athletes participated in events such as track and field, swimming, basketball, and gymnastics. The games brought together over 4,000 athletes from across the United States.
Special Olympics Florida CEO Sherry Wheelock praised the athletes' dedication and sportsmanship. 'Our athletes have shown incredible determination and skill,' she said in a statement. The games also featured unified sports, where athletes with and without intellectual disabilities compete together.
This was the first Special Olympics USA Games held since 2022, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The next games are scheduled for 2030 in Orlando, Florida.
