Taylor Swift has applied to trademark her voice and likeness, according to a filing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The move is aimed at protecting herself against unauthorized AI-generated content, including deepfakes and fake endorsements.
The application, filed on April 24, 2026, seeks to register her voice as a sound mark and her likeness as a trademark. This would give her legal grounds to sue individuals or companies that use AI to mimic her voice or create fake images without permission.
Swift has previously been targeted by AI-generated content, including fake images that falsely showed her endorsing political candidates. In 2024, explicit deepfake images of her circulated online, prompting her team to take legal action. The new trademark application is a proactive step to prevent future misuse.
Legal experts say this is a novel approach, as voice and likeness trademarks are rare but increasingly relevant in the age of generative AI. The USPTO has not yet ruled on the application.
