Months after the Supreme Court ruled some tariffs were unconstitutional, the first round of tariff refunds has begun flowing in. Oshkosh Corporation CFO Matt Field confirmed to CNBC that the company has started receiving tariff refunds as of Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
The Supreme Court decision, issued in March 2026, struck down certain tariffs imposed by the previous administration, citing violations of the Constitution's uniformity clause. The ruling affected tariffs on a range of imported goods, including steel and aluminum products.
Oshkosh, a manufacturer of specialty vehicles and defense equipment, is among the first companies to receive refunds. The company had paid millions in tariffs on imported components. Field stated that the refunds would help offset costs and improve cash flow.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency is processing refunds, but the timeline for other companies remains unclear. Legal experts expect more refunds to be issued in the coming months as claims are reviewed.
