Tanzania hosted a high-level international learning exchange on the implementation of the Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries. The event, held in Dar es Salaam, brought together participants from several countries to share experiences and best practices.

The exchange focused on integrating the SSF Guidelines into national policies, with a particular emphasis on empowering women in the fisheries sector. Discussions highlighted the critical role of women in post-harvest activities and community management, and the need to address gender-based barriers to resource access and decision-making.

This initiative is part of Tanzania's broader efforts, supported by the FAO, to promote sustainable fisheries management and enhance livelihoods for coastal communities. The country is recognized for its work in developing community-based management plans and co-management frameworks for its fisheries resources.
