Fish landings at the port of Tangier increased by 92% during the first six months of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, according to data from Morocco's National Fisheries Office (ONP). The port recorded 3,000 tonnes of fish landings between January and June 2026, up from 1,560 tonnes in the same period last year.
The value of these landings also rose significantly, reaching 35 million Moroccan dirhams (approximately $3.5 million), a 45% increase compared to the previous year. The growth is attributed to improved fishing conditions and increased activity by the port's fishing fleet.
Local authorities and fisheries officials have welcomed the positive trend, which supports the region's coastal economy. The port of Tangier is one of Morocco's key fishing hubs on the Mediterranean coast, contributing to the national seafood supply.
The ONP data, released in early August 2026, highlights the ongoing recovery of the fishing sector in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region. Further investments in port infrastructure and sustainable fishing practices are expected to sustain this growth.
