The Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on Saturday reported the first locally acquired dengue fever case of 2026. The patient is a man in his 60s living in Qianzhen District, Kaohsiung City.
According to the CDC, the man sought medical attention on May 23 after developing symptoms including fever, headache, and joint pain. Laboratory tests confirmed dengue virus infection. The patient had no recent travel history, indicating local transmission.
Health authorities have initiated vector control measures in the area, including mosquito spraying and public education campaigns. The CDC urges residents to eliminate standing water and use mosquito repellent to prevent further spread.
This is the first locally acquired case reported in Taiwan this year. In 2025, Taiwan recorded 123 locally acquired dengue cases, according to CDC data.
