A training session for taekwondo referees and coaches, aimed at aligning with international standards set by World Taekwondo, took place in Dakar, Senegal, from May 11 to 15, 2026. The event was organized by the Senegalese Taekwondo Federation in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee's Olympic Solidarity program.
According to the Senegalese Taekwondo Federation, the training involved 35 participants, including 20 referees and 15 coaches from various regions of Senegal. The curriculum covered updated competition rules, scoring systems, and coaching methodologies as per the latest World Taekwondo regulations.
The instructors were international experts certified by World Taekwondo, including Master Kim Young-ho from South Korea and Master Fatou Diop from Senegal. The training concluded with a practical examination, and participants who passed received certificates recognized by World Taekwondo.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the quality of taekwondo officiating and coaching in Senegal, with the goal of improving the country's performance in international competitions, including the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
