Brian Brobbey scored a hat-trick but Sunderland were denied a famous victory as Manchester City fought back to draw 2-2 in a Premier League thriller at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.
The Dutch striker, on loan from Ajax, opened the scoring in the first half and added two more after the break to put the Black Cats 3-2 ahead, only for City to equalise late on. Brobbey, who joined Sunderland on a season-long loan in August 2025, has now scored five goals in his last three appearances.
Manchester City, managed by Pep Guardiola, remain unbeaten in the Premier League this season but dropped points for the first time in five matches. Sunderland, promoted via the Championship play-offs in 2025, sit in mid-table after a promising start to the campaign.
"It's really hard to lose," Brobbey said after the match. "We played well, but we have to be proud of our performance against the best team in the league."
