RC Strasbourg's on-loan striker Lorenzo Panichelli has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering a serious knee injury. The 21-year-old Italian, who is the club's joint-top scorer in Ligue 1 this campaign, ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a training session.
Panichelli joined Strasbourg on a season-long loan from Serie A side Atalanta in the summer of 2025. He had made a significant impact, scoring 8 goals in 24 league appearances, forming a key part of the team's attack. His absence is a major blow to the club's ambitions for the final stretch of the season.
Head coach Patrick Vieira confirmed the severity of the injury, stating the player will undergo surgery and begin a long rehabilitation process. "It's a huge disappointment for Lorenzo and for the team," Vieira said. "He was in great form and brought a lot to our play. We will support him through his recovery."
The injury comes at a critical time as Strasbourg, currently mid-table, aims to secure a strong finish in Ligue 1. The club is now expected to rely more heavily on other attacking options like Emanuel Emegha and Dilane Bakwa for the remaining fixtures.
