The Springboks completed a clean sweep of their July internationals, winning three Tests against Wales and Georgia. Coach Rassie Erasmus used the matches to test squad depth, rotating players and experimenting with combinations, while deliberately not showing tactical plans for the upcoming Rugby Championship series against New Zealand.
According to verified reports, the Boks beat Wales 41-13 on July 6 in Pretoria, then defeated Georgia 35-20 on July 13 in Mbombela, and finished with a 48-12 win over Wales on July 19 in Cape Town. Erasmus gave debuts to several players, including prop Thomas du Toit and lock Ruan Nortje, to build experience.
Erasmus stated after the final match: 'We wanted to win but also to see what depth we have. We didn't show our hand for the All Blacks.' The Springboks face New Zealand in a two-Test series starting August 6 in Johannesburg.
