Spirit's financial struggles were exacerbated by the blocked merger and ongoing operational losses. The company reported a net loss of $158.3 million in the third quarter of 2024. As part of the bankruptcy filing, Spirit secured a $350 million equity investment from existing bondholders to support its restructuring.
The airline has not announced any plans to cease operations. Passengers are advised that existing tickets, bookings, and loyalty points remain valid. Spirit's flights continue to operate as scheduled, and the company expects to emerge from bankruptcy as a stronger, more financially stable carrier.
