Spanish authorities have dismantled a major drug smuggling tunnel that stretched from Morocco into the Spanish enclave of Melilla. The operation, conducted by the Spanish National Police and Civil Guard, led to the seizure of more than 4.5 metric tons of hashish.
The sophisticated tunnel, approximately 500 meters long, originated in a house in the Moroccan province of Nador and ended in a warehouse in Melilla. It was equipped with lighting, ventilation, and a rail system to transport the drugs. Police arrested 11 individuals in connection with the operation.
Authorities described the tunnel as one of the most complex ever found in the region, highlighting the ongoing challenges in combating drug trafficking across the Strait of Gibraltar. The investigation remains open, with further arrests possible.
