Spain's government remains confident that the final of the 2030 men's soccer World Cup will be played in Spain, despite recent reports suggesting FIFA has awarded the match to Morocco. The tournament is jointly hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
Speaking on Thursday, Spanish government spokesperson Pilar Alegría said, "We are convinced that the final will be in Spain." She added that Spain is working with the Moroccan and Portuguese federations to present the best possible bid to FIFA.
The comments follow a report from a Spanish radio station claiming FIFA had decided to give the final to Morocco, specifically at the Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca. FIFA has not officially confirmed any decision on the final's venue.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez also expressed optimism, stating that Spain will host the final at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium in Madrid. The final is scheduled for July 21, 2030.
FIFA is expected to make an official announcement in the coming months. The 2030 World Cup will be the first to be held across three continents, with the opening matches in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay to celebrate the tournament's centenary.
