The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued warnings for disruptive waves and strong winds along parts of the coastline for Saturday, 5 April 2026. A Yellow Level 2 warning for waves is in effect between Alexander Bay and Cape Agulhas, with wave heights between 4.5 to 6.0 meters expected, posing a danger to coastal infrastructure and marine activities.

These conditions have prompted local authorities to close several beaches for public safety. The City of Cape Town has announced closures at popular beaches including Camps Bay, Clifton, and Muizenberg. Similar precautions are being taken in other coastal municipalities affected by the rough seas.

Inland, Gauteng can expect a fine and warm day with temperatures reaching the high 20s Celsius, according to SAWS forecasts. The UVB index is predicted to be very high across much of the country, urging the public to take necessary sun protection measures if outdoors.

The weather service advises the public to avoid coastal activities, heed local authority instructions, and stay updated via official SAWS channels. The disruptive conditions are expected to persist into Sunday before gradually subsiding.
