South Africa's Department of Mineral Resources and Energy announced significant fuel price increases for April 2026. The adjustments, effective from April 2, see the price of both 93 and 95 octane petrol rise by approximately 1.20 rand per litre.

The government stated the primary reasons for the hike are a substantial increase in international crude oil prices and a depreciation of the South African rand against the US dollar during the review period. These are standard factors in the country's monthly fuel price calculation.

This increase represents one of the largest single-month adjustments in recent years, placing additional financial pressure on consumers and businesses amid existing economic challenges. The price of diesel and illuminating paraffin also saw notable rises.
