South Africa has denied allegations of targeted xenophobic attacks against African nationals, stating that while isolated incidents involving migrants have occurred, there is no evidence of systematic attacks or killings of Ghanaians or other foreign nationals. The government emphasized that crime in South Africa is not directed at any specific nationality.
Ghana, however, has pushed for the African Union (AU) to take action, citing concerns over the safety of its citizens in South Africa. The Ghanaian government has called for a formal AU investigation into the incidents, which it describes as xenophobic violence.
According to reports, the South African government has condemned all forms of violence and urged calm, while Ghanaian officials have demanded stronger protections for African migrants. The AU has not yet issued a formal response to Ghana's request.
