Six people were killed in two separate road traffic accidents on Tuesday along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls and Harare-Bulawayo roads, Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed on Wednesday.
The first accident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. at the 279 km peg along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls road, involving a commuter omnibus and a haulage truck. Four people died at the scene, and several others were injured and taken to a nearby hospital.
The second crash happened later on the Harare-Bulawayo road near Gweru, where two vehicles collided head-on, killing two people instantly. Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the causes of both accidents.
Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, especially during the rainy season when roads are slippery. The National Traffic Safety Council has recorded a rise in fatal accidents this year, with speeding and reckless driving cited as major factors.
