KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 — Cross-border taxi services between Singapore and Malaysia will be expanded from May 4 to give travellers more flexibility while ensuring fair competition among operators, the transport ministries of both countries announced today.
The new rules allow more taxi operators to provide cross-border services, with additional pick-up and drop-off points in both countries. Previously, services were limited to a few designated operators and locations.
Under the updated framework, taxis from Singapore can now pick up passengers in Johor Bahru and other parts of Malaysia, while Malaysian taxis can pick up passengers in Singapore, subject to licensing conditions. Fares will be determined by market forces, with no fixed pricing mandated by authorities.
The move aims to reduce illegal cross-border taxi operations and provide more options for the estimated 400,000 daily travellers crossing the Causeway and Second Link. Both governments will monitor compliance and adjust rules as needed.
