Shubman Gill has entered an exclusive list of Indian Premier League (IPL) captains by scoring over 500 runs in a single season as skipper. He joins Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar as the only Indian captains to achieve this milestone.
Gill, who leads the Gujarat Titans, reached the mark during the 2026 IPL season. As of May 17, 2026, he has scored 501 runs in 12 matches at an average of 41.75, with a strike rate of 147.35. His performance includes four half-centuries and a top score of 89 not out.
Virat Kohli achieved the feat multiple times for Royal Challengers Bangalore, including a record 973 runs in 2016. Sachin Tendulkar scored 553 runs as captain of Mumbai Indians in 2010. Gill's achievement places him in elite company among Indian IPL captains.
