Workers at Seplat Energy Plc, a leading Nigerian independent energy company, have commenced an indefinite strike. The action, which began on Thursday, April 3, 2026, was called by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).

The unions stated the strike is due to unresolved welfare issues and conditions of service. Key demands reportedly include the implementation of a new collective bargaining agreement and the resolution of outstanding salary arrears and allowances for workers.

Seplat Energy confirmed the industrial action in a statement, acknowledging that operations at some of its locations have been disrupted. The company stated it is engaging with the unions to find an amicable resolution and is taking steps to minimize the impact on its business operations.

The strike highlights ongoing labor tensions within Nigeria's vital energy sector. As of April 4, 2026, negotiations between the company and union representatives are ongoing to resolve the dispute.
