The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially dismissed the appeal filed by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) regarding the awarding of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hosting rights to Morocco. The decision, confirmed by CAF on March 17, 2026, upholds the original selection made in September 2023.
Senegal had initially been awarded the 2025 tournament but was stripped of hosting rights in July 2022 due to concerns over infrastructure and preparedness. The FSF subsequently appealed this decision, arguing that the process was unfair. CAF's Appeals Board has now ruled that the initial decision was procedural and final.
With the appeal dismissed, Morocco is confirmed as the sole host for the 2025 AFCON. The tournament is scheduled to be held in the summer of 2025, marking the second time the nation will host the event after 1988. CAF stated that its focus is now on supporting Morocco's preparations.
The Senegalese Football Federation has acknowledged the ruling. While expressing disappointment, officials indicated they would respect the decision and shift their focus to the national team's sporting preparations for future competitions.
