A Moroccan appeals court has confirmed prison sentences ranging from three months to one year for 18 Senegalese football supporters. The convictions stem from violent incidents that occurred in Casablanca following the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final in February 2025.
The fans were initially convicted in March 2025 by a lower court on charges including violence against public officials, armed gathering, and destruction of public property. The appeals court in Casablanca upheld these verdicts on April 10, 2026, rejecting the defendants' appeals.
The clashes took place after Senegal lost the AFCON final to Algeria. Reports from the time indicate that celebrations by Algerian fans escalated into confrontations with Senegalese supporters and local security forces. The Moroccan judiciary stated the sentenced individuals were involved in acts of vandalism and attacks on police.
This case has drawn attention to fan behavior and security management at major sporting events in the region. The Senegalese fans have now exhausted their primary legal avenues within Morocco following the appellate decision.
