Senegal's under-17 national football team, known as the Lionceaux, has been called upon to continue the winning tradition set by the senior team, the Lions of Teranga. The call comes as the team prepares for the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, scheduled from March 29 to April 19, 2026.
The senior Senegalese team has enjoyed significant success in recent years, winning the 2022 AFCON and reaching the round of 16 in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The U17 team is now expected to emulate this performance in their own continental competition.
Senegal has been drawn in Group A alongside Morocco, Uganda, and Zambia. The tournament serves as a qualifier for the 2026 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, with the top four teams advancing.
The Lionceaux will open their campaign against Uganda on March 30, 2026, followed by matches against Zambia and Morocco. The team's preparation has included friendly matches and training camps to build cohesion and tactical discipline.
