Senegal's Justice Minister, Yassine Fall, has confirmed the country will take its case regarding the hosting of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The move follows the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) decision to strip Senegal of hosting rights and award the tournament to Morocco.

Minister Fall stated that Senegal is pursuing the appeal "for the interest of African football," arguing that CAF's decision lacked a proper legal basis. The initial decision to award the 2025 tournament to Senegal was made by CAF in 2018.

The appeal to CAS represents a significant escalation in the dispute, moving it from football's governing bodies to an independent international legal authority. The outcome of the case could set a precedent for future tournament hosting disputes within the continent.

No date for the CAS hearing has been publicly announced. The Confederation of African Football has not issued a new statement in direct response to Senegal's announced legal action.
