The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has confirmed it will file an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to strip Senegal of its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title. The decision, announced on March 18, 2026, followed a disciplinary investigation into the chaotic final against Morocco in January 2025.
CAF's ruling awarded the championship to Morocco, citing "serious breaches of regulations" by the Senegalese team during the final match. The governing body stated that the decision was based on findings from its disciplinary board, though specific details of the infractions have not been fully disclosed in public statements.
"We are shocked by this decision and will use all legal means to defend our title, won legitimately on the pitch," a spokesperson for the FSF stated. The federation maintains that the team's victory was earned fairly during the match itself.
The appeal to CAS, based in Lausanne, Switzerland, is expected to be lodged imminently. The court's process typically involves written submissions and a hearing before a panel of arbitrators, whose decision is final and binding. The outcome will determine the official holder of the 2025 AFCON championship.
