The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is set to adjudicate the dispute between the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding Senegal's exclusion from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). The FSF filed an appeal with CAS in late 2025 after CAF's disciplinary board imposed the sanction.
CAF's decision, based on its disciplinary code, stemmed from incidents during the second leg of the 2025 CAN qualifier between Senegal and Morocco in June 2025. The match was abandoned after Senegalese fans invaded the pitch following a controversial refereeing decision, with Morocco leading 2-1. CAF subsequently awarded Morocco a 2-0 victory and imposed the ban on Senegal.
Legal experts note that CAS will review whether CAF correctly applied its regulations, particularly Articles 82 to 84 concerning spectator conduct and federation liability. The Senegalese federation argues the punishment is disproportionate. A final ruling from CAS is expected in the coming months, which will determine Senegal's participation in the tournament to be hosted by Morocco.
