Senegal is hosting the African Mayors Forum from June 10 to 12, 2026, in Dakar, bringing together mayors and local government officials from across the continent to discuss territorial governance and urban development challenges.
The forum, organized by the Senegalese government in partnership with the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa), aims to strengthen decentralized cooperation and share best practices in local governance. Key topics include sustainable urban planning, climate resilience, and digital transformation of municipal services.
According to the official program, the event features plenary sessions, workshops, and bilateral meetings. Participants are expected to adopt a joint declaration outlining commitments to improve local governance and enhance the role of cities in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Senegal's Minister of Territorial Governance, who opened the forum on June 10, emphasized the importance of local leadership in addressing rapid urbanization and inequality. The forum is part of broader efforts to promote African solutions to urban challenges.
