Authorities in Senegal and France have dismantled a criminal network suspected of trafficking children from Quranic schools, known as daaras, to France. The operation, which culminated in a series of arrests in late 2025 and early 2026, targeted individuals allegedly exploiting vulnerable minors.
According to reports from French and Senegalese judicial sources, the network is accused of recruiting children from daaras in Senegal, often with promises of education or a better life, and then transporting them to France. Once in France, the children were reportedly forced into begging and other forms of exploitation.
The investigation was a joint effort between French and Senegalese police and judicial authorities. Multiple arrests were made in both countries, with suspects facing charges related to human trafficking, organized crime, and exploitation of minors.
The case has highlighted the ongoing issue of child exploitation linked to some daaras in Senegal, where children, known as talibΓ©s, are sometimes subjected to forced begging. International cooperation has been emphasized as crucial to combating such transnational criminal networks.
