The Senegal Football Federation (FSF) has publicly criticized the standard of refereeing following the national team's exit from the African Nations Championship (CHAN). Spokesman Souleymane Ahmed Dion expressed strong dissatisfaction with officiating decisions during Senegal's quarter-final match against Mali on March 22, 2026.

In statements reported by Senegalese media, Dion described the refereeing as "catastrophic" and detrimental to African football. He specifically referenced contentious decisions that he believed negatively impacted the Senegalese team's performance in the tightly contested match, which ended in a 1-1 draw before Mali advanced via a penalty shootout.

The FSF's criticism adds to ongoing continental discussions about refereeing standards. Dion called for urgent improvements to ensure fair competition, stating that such officiating undermines the development of the sport in Africa. The federation has indicated it may pursue formal complaints with the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Senegal's elimination marks the end of their campaign in the tournament reserved for players active in domestic African leagues. The team had entered the knockout stages as one of the favorites after a strong group stage performance.
